Bravely Second: End Layer ROM Description

We had the sequel to Bravely Default come out about 3-4 years ago – Bravely Second. It was a game on the 3DS and it was really fun.

Yeah, the story picks up right where the previous one left off. You should play the first one before playing this one. It follows the main characters as they wander around and try to stop the new threat that emerges – the Kaisers – to save the world again. It’s an RPG after all.

There are a few differences here. You get escalating rewards for battles. If you continue fighting after the first encounter, you get way more experience points for each subsequent battle. It’s a really clever way they implemented it. It’s great because it makes grinding faster. You don’t have to enter a new battle to chain them together. You just get the multiplier, way more experience. It’s fantastic and it also adds risk-reward – better rewards because you retain BP and health. Really intelligent.

They also changed a few other things. They have commands for the auto-battle mode. You can set, for example, I want turn 1 to be all attacks, turn 2 to be spells, turn 3 to defend, etc. It works really well. I almost wish there was something that could switch between turns so you could be more flexible.

This game focuses on convenience. The first game already had really good gameplay and this one just refines it to make it even better. Making grinding better, more fun to play and really great.

But one thing I didn’t really like is that the grinding is almost too easy. I was always overleveled compared to what I needed early on. The bosses weren’t really exciting to beat or even required me to be careful because I was so overpowered. The farming being so easy made me always higher level than I probably should be and they didn’t seem to pose any threat to me. I didn’t even need to defend, just stand there and take it.

I felt that way too, but I think it’s a good feature because you can always choose not to use it anyway.

That’s true, the game does have difficulty options so you could pick a harder mode if you want. I wish default was a little harder.

The music is still amazing. The game looks good and sounds great. I really enjoyed it.

And one thing a lot of people asked me is whether Bravely Second does the same thing as Bravely Default at the end of the game. And it didn’t. I was very happy about that. So those worried about that don’t need to worry. The game doesn’t do that.

If you like JRPGs, this is a really good one.

Overall, Bravely Second is a quality sequel to Bravely Default, improving aspects like the battle system and convenience to provide an even better experience for players. It’s a very worthwhile JRPG on the 3DS platform.
