Project Justice ROM Description
In the world of thrilling arcade games, Project Justice, renowned as Project Justice: Rival Schools 2 in Europe, Australia, and Latin America, holds a special place. Emerging from the creative genius of Capcom, Project Justice presents an enticing sequel to Rival Schools: United By Fate. This remarkable 3D fighting game, initially released in the arcades in 2000, soon made its way to the Dreamcast in 2001.
Project Justice revitalizes the fighting landscape, effortlessly borrowing elements from the original Rival Schools while integrating fascinating changes. The game embodies an enhanced team fighter concept, supporting teams of three characters instead of two. This evolution not only broadens the scope for Team-Up attacks but also introduces the mesmerizing Party-Up attack, a three-character move unique to each character’s school.
In a tactical twist, players can now thwart an opponent’s Team-Up Special by initiating their Team-Up command, triggering a captivating fighting sequence. Who lands the first successful hit determines the fate of the Team-Up. Moreover, the game’s ‘vigor’ meter has been streamlined to five levels, thus, regulating the execution of Party-Ups and Team-Ups.
The Dreamcast port of Project Justice showcases an enticing character creation mode, letting players concoct their own fighters. Despite its absence in non-Japanese ports, several unlockable sub-characters make up for it, offering the same excitement and challenge.
The game integrates characters from previous Rival Schools entries, while unveiling five original characters, promising an enriched gaming experience. Every character’s academic or sporting expertise manifests as their fighting style, making the gameplay intriguingly surreal. From impromptu bouts of synchronised swimming to overwhelming the opponent with shame, the special moves never fail to surprise.
Project Justice’s single-player mode boasts a distinctive structure. While it offers a rigid storyline in Story Mode, it provides flexibility in Free Mode where players choose a team of three characters and battle random opponents. Upon defeating the boss, players receive performance ratings, adding to the thrill of the game.
The plot unfolds a year after the events of Rival Schools: United By Fate. The sinister plans of a mysterious ninja assassin, Kurow Kirishima disrupt the peace in Aoharu City. Batsu Ichimonji and his allies must rise against Kurow’s conspiracy and strive to protect their cherished friendship.
