Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure ROM Description

If you grew up loving Disney cartoons and skateboarding games, get psyched for Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure. This classic GameCube title mashes up Tony Hawk gameplay with levels featuring Toy Story, Tarzan and Lion King characters. How sick is that?!

Activision basically reskinned Tony Hawk 4 with Disney branding to appeal to a younger crowd. You get the same open-ended structure with challenges to unlock new goals and gear. But the controls are simplified so kids can grasp it faster.

They made manuals and tricks way easier to pull off. But you can enable “Pro Controls” to get the full Tony Hawk experience if you want. The animation stays slick and gameplay still feels great overall.

It’s noticeably toned down from Tony Hawk though. Fewer customizable tricks, simplified character creation, condensed stats – the works. Only three Disney worlds is a bummer too. But it’s all to keep kids from getting overwhelmed.

On the graphics front, it borrows the solid Tony Hawk engine. Smooth animations and accurately rendered Disney characters, but nothing mind-blowing. The soundtrack’s an odd mix of Disney tunes and 2000s punk bands like Reel Big Fish. Not exactly kids’ music?

Anyway, it’s a really fun way for Disney fans to get into skating games without the complexity of Tony Hawk. Sure, it’s a blatant copycat. But if it gets kids stoked on skating, right on! Just watch out for Bowser stomping around the park in Mario Kart Double Dash when you’re lining up sick kickflips as Buzz Lightyear.
