Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell ROM Description

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a stealth action game developed and published by Ubisoft for the Xbox, PC, and other platforms. It was released in 2002 and is the first game in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series.

The Metal Gear Solid series may be compared to Splinter Cell because both are third-person action games emphasizing stealth. The player assumes the persona of Sam Fisher, an agent working for the top-secret American government agency known as NSA Black Operation. Fisher is a member of a Third Echelon splinter cell division, often responsible for carrying out the organization’s most sensitive tasks. Due to the extreme secrecy of his operations, even if he is apprehended, the government will not acknowledge the existence of the group in question.

Fisher can execute a wide array of maneuvers, which allows him to navigate his environment and get toward his goals in several different ways. He can walk, run, crouch, leap, rappel, shimmy, traverse horizontal lines, zip using a zip cord, and split jump. He can also zip using a zip cord. There are several strategies to choose from while eliminating adversaries. He can wield weapons, although doing so may draw guards’ attention, making it more challenging to complete assignments. It is possible to kill, stun, or bring an opponent to submission. For instance, Fisher can see the roof and knock an adversary unconscious. Some foes are required to open a door or enter a passcode. Hostages can be seized from one’s enemy by simply putting a pistol to their head. They can also be questioned or utilized as human shields in some situations.

Other characteristics include the capability to look through a door before walking through it or to utilize an optic cable camera (also known as a “snake” camera) to look through the underbelly to examine what is ahead. Because of the emphasis on stealth, there are few weapons to choose from. There is a suppressed FN Five-Seven handgun, and an assault rifle called the FN F2000, which may be customized with a silencer and other additions. There is a restricted supply of ammunition, and extra rounds are hard to come by. Players are strongly urged to skulk about in the shadows and conceal themselves behind various objects to avoid harm’s way. Fisher can see in the dark thanks to his night vision and thermal goggles, which allow him to observe warmer temperatures in color. He also has access to a light meter that measures his visibility. Aside from that, there are also gas grenades, sticky shockers, and ring airfoil projectiles.

The Xbox version is the original one, with a version modified just slightly for the PC and separate ports for the PS2 and GameCube. The latter make broad adjustments to the stages in order to make the game more approachable. In addition, each edition has a few features that are unique to that version. The Xbox and PC versions of the game include three additional missions that may be downloaded (Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Mission-Pack). A level is only available on the PS2 version, and the GameCube version can be linked up with a Game Boy Advance through a link connection so that players may see an overhead map. The PS2 and GameCube versions come with other binoculars, while the GameCube version also has another sticky bomb weapon. In addition, the PlayStation 2 version includes an exclusive five-minute pre-rendered introduction cinematic with fully orchestrated music. This cinematic shows how the two spies whose whereabouts you are first tasked with locating were taken captive.
