Pokémon Diamond Version debuted the fourth generation of games and introduced players to the Sinnoh region. As a new Pokémon Trainer, your journey begins when you receive your first Pokémon from Professor Rowan. You’ll choose between Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup to embark on a quest to become the Pokémon Champion.
Throughout Sinnoh, you’ll encounter over 100 new Pokémon including fan favorites like Bidoof, Shinx, Riolu and Bronzor. Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia play important roles in the story as well. You’ll travel to various towns like Eterna City, Hearthome City and Snowpoint City, each with their own Gym Leader to challenge. By defeating the eight Gym Leaders, you’ll earn the right to face the Elite Four and Champion Cynthia.
Some key new features included the addition of day and night cycles, expanded WiFi connectivity, and “Super Contests” which incorporated Pokémon dress-up and dancing competitions. You could also Trade and Battle other Trainers worldwide. A new area called the Great Marsh provided rare Pokémon encounters as well.
One notable version exclusive Pokémon was Larvitar, only found in Diamond. Meanwhile, Pearl players could obtain the elusive Ponyta. For a complete Pokédex, you’ll need to trade version exclusives with a friend.
