Hunter: The Reckoning – Wayward hacks and slashes onto PS2, continuing the co-op monster-hunting adventure. Once again, unleash devastating melee combos and magic against hordes of undead monsters and cultists across Ashcroft. Though stripped down to 2-player, satisfying gameplay improvements should hook fans.
Familiar classes like Avenger and Martyr return wielding distinct playstyles, now joined by new hunter types. Shooting feels tighter, thanks to shifting weapon selection off face buttons. Mapping magic to shoulder buttons streamlines swapping attacks on the fly. Leveling also builds stats like strength for a sense of progression.
The mission-based structure sends new objectives to players across familiar locales like the graveyard and prison. Seek weapon parts to take on werewolves or protect characters from attacking waves. Side missions add variety beyond simply surviving and escaping overwhelming odds. The pacing and difficulty keep tension high at all times.
However, visuals disappoint compared to the previous game, with lower detail and prevalent slowdown. The exclusion of a 4-player co-op also stings. Still, enjoyable core combat mechanics should win over first game fans. Approaching levels strategically with combos and magic continues to satisfy.
