Tekken 5 ROM Description
A decade of dominance. 10 years after the first Tekken redefined the console fighting scene, the legendary King of Iron Fist Tournament returns to dominate the genre all over again on your PlayStation 2. This is Tekken 5, released in 2005, one of my favorite fighting games on the PlayStation 2.
I was reading the back of the box earlier here, let me continue: “Prepare for the deepest, most relentless fighting action ever. Because in the space between opposing fighters, there’s no room for mercy.” Some pretty good marketing writing, and good-looking packaging here on Tekken 5 and it’s a great-looking game that gives you widescreen and progressive scan, which sounds archaic now but back in 2005, that was pretty cool.
Tekken Gameplay
I’ve always enjoyed the Tekken games, to be honest, I’m never very good at them. Tekken is all about button combinations. It’s it’s not a good button masher’s fighting game and I’m a button masher. I just hammer away buttons until I win or well, more likely lose. But actually, I found a couple of fighters Narrows pretty good at. This girl, in particular with the shorty shorts and the booty boots, she pretty kick-ass! I don’t think I ever actually used her before.
Yoshimitsu is usually my character in the Tekken games or Law. I like Law a lot. If you’ve played any of these, the formula really hasn’t changed very much over the years. I’m recording this on the eve of the launch of Tekken 7, or at well at least within a few weeks of it, haven’t played that one yet but this one is great. This is one of my favorite fighting games on the PS2 like I said, it’s it’s one of the games I highlighted as a starter game when collecting for the PlayStation 2 in my ultra massive book. I said get this one as one of your first fighting games and there’s a lot of good fighting games on the ps2 and most of them are pretty cheap because none of them are rare.
Tekken 5 is not rare. Here I’m fighting the end boss, I actually got through this guy, he’s kind of a cheap end boss, he starts shooting fireballs so you got to finish him off before he launches his fireballs out of his stomach. My health, you should really have that looked at.
Modes and Features
Here’s Yoshimitsu, who was always my character back in the day. Like Tekken 2, I played a lot on the original PlayStation when I was in college, and Yoshimitsu and Law were my characters. I liked the other games, you unlock new characters as you fight through the storyline mode and I don’t know why these games even bother with stories, but there is a storyline mode, fight through it, unlock new characters. It’s pretty tricky here’s the training mode where you can try to learn your button combos and special moves.
Tekken is a very straightforward game, it’s like triangle, triangle, triangle, circle, square, triangle and to pull that stuff off while you’re fighting I think takes quite a bit of skill actually. It’s not like Street Fighter Alpha 2 where I just jump all over the screen as Chun-Li and kick people in the head. And this one it’s like you actually have to have to know what you’re doing.
Tekken 5 gives you numerous gameplay options, obviously, the two-player mode is the best so invite a friend over and play some Tekken 2 on the couch pre-internet style with wires. That way you could yell at each other and you’d see one of the great things about old-school fighting games is you could take the fighting from the screen into your room. So after you lost you could then start fighting fighting your friends in real life. It was incredible, just imagine that, and of course that usually just degenerated into beer drinking which was even more awesome.
Conclusion
Tekken 5 is one of the best PS2 games. Tekken 5 is featured in my Ultra Massive Video Game Console Guide because it deserves it. It’s one of the best fighting games on the PlayStation 2. It won’t break the bank, and it provides hours of single-player and two-player fun. And it has a kangaroo fighting a bear; come on, who doesn’t love that? You win!
