As the new furious God of War, the ruthless warrior Kratos makes his triumphant comeback. This is the second chapter of the series, and it is once again centered on a story of vengeance. Following his victory over Ares and his subsequent ascension to the status of god, Kratos reveals himself to be a more ruthless and power-hungry god than Ares ever was. After some time, he discovers that he has been betrayed and that his almighty powers and skills have been taken away from him. Kratos embarks on yet another epic journey with the goal of locating the Sisters of Fate and accomplishing something that no mortal or deity has ever accomplished: altering his fate and regaining his power.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, God of War II is an action game that also includes aspects of platforming and puzzle-solving. Kratos must continue to use the Blades of Chaos in order to cut apart his adversaries as well as other gods, heroes, and monsters from Greek mythology that stand in his way on his path to vengeance and power.
