This cult favorite, developed by Eighting and distributed by Hudson Soft, allows players to battle as human-animal hybrids known as Zoanthropes in a novel twist on hand-to-hand combat.
Bloody Roar transports players to a dark planet where the nefarious Tylon Corporation intends to use Zoanthropes as weapons. Fighters include ninja assassin Bakuryu, military wolf Yugo, and the mutant mole Long. Each may transform into gigantic werebeast versions of themselves, unleashing new attacks and gaining power.
When your fighter can change is determined by the Beast Indicator. Landing strikes charges it up to the point where the word “Beast” appears, allowing you to transform on command. Characters transform into beasts, becoming larger hitters with extended movesets and health regeneration. While changed, the indication progressively depletes, requiring careful timing on when to unleash your feral rage.
Bloody Roar dazzled with stunning animation and interactive 3D stages in addition to its distinctive gimmick. The diverse foreign lineup allows you to battle as animals such as bunnies, tigers, lions, and gorillas. In comparison to other early 3D fighters, combos and cancels made matches rapid and technical.
