Dragon Fantasy: Book I ROM Description

Dragon Fantasy: A Retro RPG Nostalgia

Dragon Fantasy, produced by The Muteki Corporation, honors legendary Japanese role-playing games. Dragon Fantasy is a nostalgic ode to the genre, originally created for iOS and then ported to Mac, Microsoft Windows, Android phones, and gaming consoles.

The game was designed as a tribute to the late artist and academic Thomas Rippon, father of series creator Adam Rippon. This personal connection enhances the game’s story and emotion.

Dragon Fantasy has typical JRPG themes like random combat, treasure-filled dungeons, and a plot about a lone hero saving the world. The game pays respect to genre stalwarts like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Lufia, and EarthBound.

The PlayStation Network versions of Dragon Fantasy Book I and II have an extended mode with 16-bit visuals and orchestrated soundtrack. Players may set this mode on or off to play the game in NES or SNES manner. The Nintendo 3DS compilation Volumes of Westeria includes this feature, demonstrating the game’s vintage gameplay aesthetics.

Dragon Fantasy has many chapters that weave a wonderful story:

Chapter 1: “Dragon Fantasy” This chapter features Thomas Rippon-inspired Ogden. Ogden, a retired hero, returns to world-saving, setting the stage for the game’s themes and characters.

Chapter 2: “The Heir Unapparent” Prince Anders’ brother, Prince Marlon, is abducted in the first chapter. Dragon Fantasy Book II hinges on Anders’ finding of an important relic.

Chapter Three: “Operation Desert Plunder” In this chapter, robber Jerald and his niece Ramona flee Sandheim’s desert empire, coinciding with Anders and Ogden’s quest.

Intermission M: Adventurers in a Minecraft server seek a mystical hat from an Enderdragon in this non-canon side tale. To celebrate the game’s 2011 Minecon debut, this chapter was created.

The Wii U and PlayStation versions of Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice (Book II) expand the story.

Dragon Fantasy is a JRPG celebration that will bring back memories and introduce new gamers. In retro-style RPGs, its profound respect for the classics and distinctive story and stylistic choices make it stand out.
