“Ethan: Meteor Hunter” is a logic and physics puzzle game where you play as a meteor-hunting mouse in three 30-level worlds. The game starts as a platformer with fire, spikes, and disappearing platforms. It soon becomes clear that the puzzles outweigh the platforming. Ethan may freeze time by collecting “pause” bricks to influence level components. While inventive, this feature often confuses and frustrates.

The game’s actual challenge comes from the sophisticated puzzles and harsh platforming. When whirling blades and fire pillars are present, strategically positioning things to navigate levels becomes difficult. Imprecision and repetition in control mechanisms frustrate players.

Despite its difficulties, “Ethan: Meteor Hunter,” with its cartoonish mouse and blocky 2.5D settings, seems easy. It pretends to be kid-friendly yet isn’t. The game has an identity problem, unsure of its audience, resulting in a mess that neither pleases casual players nor puzzle fans.
