The Creative and Engaging Puzzle-Platformer Furmins
Housemarque’s iOS and PlayStation Vita physics-based puzzle-platform game “Furmins” was developed in Finland. For puzzle fans, “Furmins” is unique and interesting due to its “set-up-and-go” gameplay and real-time interaction.
The Furmins, the game’s characters, must be guided from the level’s start to a basket. Players must solve complex puzzles that use physical chain reactions between objects and Furmins to complete this journey.
The game comprises two phases:
- Setup Mode: Players strategically set items to generate paths and physical reactions. These objects must be arranged so all Furmins can access the basket safely. This phase involves careful preparation and game physics knowledge.
- Action Mode: After setting up, players activate Action Mode, where Furmins interact with level items and physics apply. Players may guide Furmins and moving objects in real time using bumpers and conveyor belts. When all Furmins reach the basket, the level is complete.
In both modes, “Furmins” lets players quickly test their setups and witness the outcomes in Action Mode. Players can be creative because each level has various answers.
Puzzles are set against a lovely story. It follows the Furmins, a group of cuddly animals whose idyllic life is interrupted when their King accidentally dams the river. The Furmins then travel eight worlds with 36 levels to rouse their King and restore their water supply.
“Furmins” was Housemarque’s debut iOS game, released in Q1 2012 on the Apple Store. An iPhone/iPod-only version and an iPad-compatible version are available. Regular updates from Housemarque keep the game fresh.
