Compile Heart and Tamsoft’s “Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection,” known in Japan as “Kami Jigen Idol Neptune PP,” is a unique life simulation and rhythm game. Made solely for the Sony PlayStation Vita, it’s published by Idea Factory in Japan and NIS America in North America, Australia, and Europe. As a spin-off from Hyperdimension Neptunia, this game plays differently from its RPG predecessors.
Japan published the game on June 20, 2013, followed by North America, Australia, and Europe in June 2014.
In “Producing Perfection,” players control idols to reclaim Console Patron Units for the four goddesses. They lost their shares to MOB48, a reference to AKB48. By staging successful live shows, players balance followers and haters based on show quality.
The game lets players change idol costumes and camera angles during live events. CPUs morph throughout performances, changing their singing tones and creating drama to the presentations.
The game includes the series’ four main goddesses—Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert—in their “Victory” outfits. Nepgear, Uni, Ram, and Rom, their sisters, appear as background dancers in endless live mode. IF and Compa dance as background, adding to the concerts’ visual attractiveness.
However, “Producing Perfection” received mixed reviews. The game has a 54/100 Metacritic score, suggesting mixed reviews from critics and players. A famous Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, scored it a 29 out of 40, indicating a better response in Japan. Destructoid, GameZone, and IGN have given the game moderate to low scores, indicating its niche appeal and maybe lower engagement than other titles in the series.
Despite conflicting reviews, “Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection” offers a unique experience for series and idol simulation game enthusiasts. Its emphasis on musical performances, character customization, and live event management makes Neptunia gaming unique and fun.
