MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death sends a band of magical girls into the dungeons on PS Vita to save their planet. As Estra, guide fellow Machina Mages through grid-based battles against monsters. Customize robot Guardians with parts and abilities for deep strategy. However, frustrating dungeon design and a bland story undermine the experience.
Turn-based combat involves balancing risk and reward between vulnerable Mages and durable Guardians. Mages heal and buff but leave themselves open, while Guardians soak damage but lack magic. Swapping roles maintains tension, and customizing attacks via parts and gems enables devastating combos.
But poor dungeon layouts filled with empty rooms and dead ends kill the thrill of exploration. Backtracking through twisting halls becomes a chore. A cliched plot and characters also fail to compel beyond the game mechanics.
