Mythology Meets Digital Card Battles in Monster Monpiece
“Monster Monpiece,” developed by Compile Heart, is a unique card fighting game that mixes mythology with digital action. This PC and PlayStation Vita game uniquely reimagines fabled creatures like unicorns and minotaurs as female protagonists, created by over 50 artists. Idea Factory International localized the game in English in May 2014 after its January 2013 Japanese release.
Two players can fight online in “Monster Monpiece” multiplayer card battles. Over 100 melee, ranged, healer, and booster virtual cards are used in the game. Melee cards excel in close battle, while ranged cards can strike from afar. Healer cards sustain the squad, and booster cards strengthen other cards.
The game features a unique “extreme rub” system called “First Crush ❤ Rub” mode. Sealing cards on the PlayStation Vita’s screen entails curiously removing layers of clothing from the character. The Vita’s screen is poked and stroked to give a physical element to the gaming.
“Monster Monpiece” takes place in Yafanir, where the Hammers of God are two huge pillars. Monster girls live with humans here. At the Academy of Kunaguvu, May, Elza, and Karen train to become monster girl Masters. Elza becomes cursed and becomes a Lost, sending May on a quest to solve the mystery, find treasures, and use the monster girls’ Magus Quartz crystals.
The Steam port of “Monster Monpiece” for Windows was released in March 2017. Strangely, this version has all original uncensored artwork but no multiplayer. Other games in Compile Heart’s Genkai Tokki series include “Moe Chronicle,” “Moero Crystal,” and “Genkai Tokki: Seven Pirates.” A straight iOS/Android sequel, “Monster Monpiece Naked,” was also revealed.
Overall, “Monster Monpiece” blends strategic card battles with mythology and creative character creation. Its innovative gameplay and captivating plot make it a standout in the digital card game genre and video game industry.
