Ratchet & Clank QForce ROM Description
Ratchet & Clank return for more frantic action in QForce, but the series turns into tower defense. Protect generators from advancing enemies by placing turrets and barriers. Venture out during waves to find new weapons and complete objectives. However, punishing design and limited resources create constant overwhelm.
The core gameplay revolves around protecting chokepoints along two paths. Smash crates to earn bolts for defenses like flamethrowers and missile launchers. But expensive prices combined with flimsy durability keeps you on the backfoot. You’ll find yourself dashing back constantly to repair and restock.
Fetch quests for new weapons also pull you from base defense duties, forcing you to abandon one task for the other. The chaotic plate spinning is simply not fun. Relentless waves with tough foes give little breathing room or chance to strategize.
With two players, the co-op premise works far better. You can cover different roles and pool resources. But solo feels like an unfair uphill battle, constantly fighting against the design rather than enemies. Ultimately, the series loses its identity amidst the genre mashup.
Ratchet & Clank deserve a better anniversary than the frustrating, unbalanced slog of QForce. Let the lombax keep his dignity by playing earlier series highlights instead, downloadable on PS2 from ROMsdl.NET. This experimental genre swap should be quickly forgotten.
