Snapshot: A Unique Gaming Photographic Adventure
Retro Affect’s 2-D platform game “Snapshot,” is unique. This game, released on August 30, 2012, for Windows and Mac OS X, brings a new level to gameplay with standard platform controls and an innovative photography mechanism.
In “Snapshot,” players move left and right, duck, and jump. The game’s highlight is the mouse-controlled camera viewfinder, which lets players take’snapshots’ of game items. The camera stores these items, which vanish. Players may then ‘paste’ these pictures into new game locations to solve puzzles and conquer obstacles.
The game’s world has several items with different functions. Elephants are walking springboards, and wind may push players across huge spans. This imaginative usage of in-game photography encourages players to think creatively about their game interactions.
Beyond level completion, “Snapshot” has further obstacles. Players can win rewards for collecting all stars in a level, beating time challenges, and keeping camera-captured things until the game ends.
Kyle Pulver of Tempe, Arizona, Peter Jones, and Dave Carrigg of Retro Affect developed “Snapshot” as their second project, however PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 versions were never released.
The game scored 74/100 on Metacritic after positive reviews. Its revolutionary platform mechanics with a photographic aspect were lauded. An innovative platform game, “Snapshot” offers a unique and interesting experience.
