SwapQuest: Aventana’s Puzzle-RPG Adventure
“SwapQuest,” a puzzle-role-playing game, is fun and different. Aventana, named after a mystical sword that saved its people from the Horde, is a peaceful country in the game. The player plays a fresh hero as this threat, previously bound in a gemstone under the castle, awakens.
Players can play Prince Wilbert or Princess Wilma to discover the sacred sword and fight the Horde. The game is simple yet innovative: players swap tiles on a grid to guide their hero to the end. This may be done using touchscreen controllers or classic buttons, with the latter being easier.
Players can guide their hero through caverns, woodlands, deserts, and marshes. Players must rehydrate at water sources in the desert, adding strategy to the game. Environmental differences complicate the game and distinguish each stage.
Late in the game, especially in the sky tower, riddles on each floor make it sparkle. These puzzles include battling opponents, pressing buttons, and solving complex challenges. This ingenuity is also shown in boss confrontations, such as a large octopus whose tentacles must be defeated before assaulting its eyes.
The player’s persistent pursuit by a toxic purple fog adds urgency to “SwapQuest”. This mechanism speeds up the game, but it clashes with its laid-back vibe and may not appeal to many players. However, it speeds decision-making and generates tension.
With its precise pixel visuals and joyful, albeit repetitive, soundtrack, “SwapQuest” is a joy to watch and hear. These characteristics make the game charming and fun, especially for short sessions.
Finally, “SwapQuest” is a great PlayStation Vita game that combines puzzles and RPGs in a beautiful universe. While the forced pace may reduce its leisurely appeal, the game’s simplicity and imaginative puzzles make it an enjoyable tour through Aventana.
