The action-RPG hybrid Guardian Heroes is a traditional 2D side-scrolling beat’ em up. Initially published in 1996 for the Sega Saturn platform, Treasure developed it. Due to its unusual mix of gameplay concepts, the game is sometimes called a “fighting RPG.”

Guardian Heroes lets players shape the narrative by making decisions that have consequences throughout the game. There are various pathways that players may take, each of which ends differently and has a unique monster or set of stages. The player’s Karma level shifts due to their acts in the game, such as the death of innocent bystanders or hostile opponents.

There’s a story mode where you may go on an adventure and a vs. way where you can battle it with up to six other people.
