A turn-based strategy game about development and territorial expansion, Revolution has sixteen unique civilizations ranging from prehistoric eras to the future. The game will be played in the future. In addition to being the first game in the Civilization subseries to be made available on console systems, it is also the second Sid Meier-branded game that is exclusive to consoles, with the first being Sid Meier’s C.P.U. Bach. Silent Service is not included in this list.

It was designed specifically with console controls in mind, and the gameplay from the beginning has been preserved, albeit with a simplified level of difficulty. Catapults have the potential to be converted into tanks in this manner. As is customary, the emphasis is placed on micromanagement. The two single-player modes provide players the option to compete against artificial intelligence players in straight matches or to fulfill predetermined scenarios.
