Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse ROM Description

The third installment in the Shantae series is called Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. Now that she has lost half of her genie power in the last game, Shantae is adjusting to life as the “guardian human” of Scuttle Town. Her sworn enemy, Risky Boots, approaches her one day and reveals that when her abilities were taken, they were fractured into 30 pieces. Overthrowing the pirate queen occurred after the shards merged with Risky’s henchmen, the Tinkerbats, making them both more strong and more ambitious. Risky’s former tutor, the Pirate Master, has been brought back to life, and this bodes ill for Sequin Land. Shantae unwillingly joins forces with the female pirate so that they may save Sequin Land, reclaim Shantae’s genie abilities, and restore order to the pirate gang.

Since it takes place in a “Metroidvania”-style environment, the game is less linear than the previous Shantae games. No longer able to morph through her belly dances, Shantae has lost all of her magical abilities. Nonetheless, she still has her hair to use as a whip, and the pirates’ arsenal can fill in for her missing abilities. These include a handgun, scimitar, and cannon, as well as a gliding Pirate cap and Risky’s Boots, which provide Shantae incredible speed. The stereoscopic 3D visuals in the Nintendo 3DS edition are reminiscent of Mighty Switch Force!, while the HD graphics in the Wii U version are reminiscent of Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition.
