Pokemon Snap (Pocket Monsters Snap) ROM Description
“Pokémon Snap” is an immersive and exciting journey through the world of Pokémon. As Todd Snap, an aspiring Pokémon photographer, you are tasked with traveling to different environments to capture photographs of as many Pokémon as you can find. With the guidance of Professor Oak, you will explore new places and discover the diverse habitats of Pokémon, from the fiery depths of a volcano to the lush jungles of the wild.
The game features 63 of the original 151 Pokémon, including favorites such as Pikachu and Charizard. On your journey, you’ll face new challenges and problems that you’ll have to get past if you want to take the perfect picture. With the help of Professor Oak, you will receive new items, such as a Pester Ball or a Poké Flute, to help you attract the attention of the Pokémon you want to capture.
Gameplay is similar to a rail-shooter, with players moving along a linear route and only being able to look around to take photographs. At the end of each route, Professor Oak will evaluate your photos based on factors such as the position of the Pokémon in the frame, the size of the Pokémon in the picture, and the number of that species in the shot. With 60 photos available during each course, you can choose the best one to submit to Professor Oak. All the images you take can be accessed later in your own Pokémon album.
The game features six courses, each offering unique environments and opportunities to capture photographs of different species. However, players can unlock a seventh course known as Rainbow Cloud by taking a picture of a mysterious Pokémon sign in each of the other courses. This final course offers the only opportunity to capture a photograph of the rare and elusive psychic Pokémon, Mew.
When the game was released on the Wii’s Virtual Console, a few changes were made to improve the player experience. Jynx’s skin color was changed from black to purple to match its current design and avoid controversy, and a feature was added that let players upload one picture daily to the Wii Message Board to share with friends.
In the end, “Pokémon Snap” is a fun and exciting trip through the Pokémon world. With its diverse environments, captivating gameplay, and beloved characters, the game is a must-play for fans of the Pokémon franchise and anyone who loves rail-shooter games. So get ready to take some photos you’ll never forget and go on an exciting journey through the world of Pokémon.
