Alien: Isolation: Nostromo Edition ROM Description

Based on the science fiction horror film franchise Alien, the Creative Assembly created the action-adventure video game Alien: Isolation. On October 7, 2014, Sega released it for Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

The story of the game takes place fifteen years after the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien and centers on Amanda Ripley, who is determined to find out what happened to her mother, Ellen Ripley, who is the main character in the film. Alien: Isolation is a departure from the series’ other video game adaptations in that it focuses heavily on stealth and survival horror gameplay while challenging players to outwit and evade a solitary extraterrestrial entity. Similar to James Cameron’s action-packed 1986 sequel Aliens, it was styled after Scott’s film and contains a lo-fi, 1970s vision of the future.

The game’s technical features, such as the alien’s behavioral design and the game’s lighting and atmospheric effects, were implemented using a whole new engine that was developed from the ground up. With over two million units sold in the US and Europe as of May 2015, Alien: Isolation was well-received by video game journalists upon its debut.

Although the plot, characters, and voice acting were all heavily lambasted, critics were quick to commend the game’s retro-futuristic graphic direction and sound design. The game was honored with many year-end accolades, such as Best Audio at the 2015 Game Developers Choice Awards and Audio Achievement at the 2015 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
