GRID 2 ROM Description
Reviving the Exhilaration with GRID 2: The Ultimate Motorsport Experience
Few people can truly master the skill of fusing realistic simulation with arcade-style action in the huge field of racing video games. 2008 saw the introduction of Codemasters’ Race Driver: GRID, one of the classics that perfectly embodied this hybrid strategy. After five years, the highly anticipated sequel, GRID 2, finally made its debut. Did it, then, carry on the legacy of its predecessor or did it falter on the track?
The stunning city of Paris is among the many real-world locales that GRID 2 offers as it takes us back to the tarmac. ‘TrueFeel,’ a new handling system introduced in the game, attempts to find the ideal harmony between authentic racing physics and intuitive controls. But unlike its predecessor, GRID 2 takes a more arcade-style approach, making it a paradise for drift fans. Though the sequel’s heart-pounding exhilaration may not sit well with fans of the more realistic aspects of the first game.
World Series Racing (WSR) is the main event in terms of game modes. Designed by in-game investor Patrick Callahan, WSR seeks to serve as a single platform for a variety of racing genres. With its dynamic “LiveRoutes,” you can watch the course layout change while you race. The goal of the game is to defeat racing clubs from all over the world in order to win over new players and expand the WSR brand. This is an interesting narrative element, however it lacks the depth that some may have wanted.
Even with its strong points, GRID 2 lacks depth in the career mode and track variety. While the music and visual effects are amazing, the track settings are not very varied and resemble a big tour of many world capitals rather than a thoroughfare experience. Despite being intricate, the career mode offers little room for customization, giving the impression of a preset path rather than a customized one.
Playing online is also not always easy. Although the concept is sound, the loose and drift-heavy handling turns online races into a frantic chaos that may enrage or delight gamers.
But the most important thing to remember is that GRID 2 is entertaining and has more going on than meets the eye. The strong damage model and flashback system from Codemasters, which are still among the best in the industry, are excellent examples of their attention to detail.
