inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood ROM Description
Infamous: The Festival of Blood takes place on Pyre Night, a holiday that combines Mardi Gras and Halloween. Cole falls prey to a vampire, and his conduit blood is used to resurrect the powerful Bloody Mary. Transformed into a creature of the night, Cole has only until dawn before losing his free will entirely.
The story isn’t as tightly tied to the famous timeline, but it does relate to the larger universe of the series and provides plenty of interesting backstory. In fact, by dawn, all your free will will be mine. Begone.
Cole’s transformation brings a host of bloody mechanics to the gameplay. A continuously draining vampire blood meter determines how far you can fly with the new flock of shadows ability, allowing you to quickly traverse the city and perform gratifying instant takedowns. Of course, to maintain a steady blood supply, you need to bite civilians or stake vampires. But with no morality system, you don’t have to worry about indulging in this guilty pleasure. Collecting blood vials expands the blood meter and makes finding them relatively easy.
Festival of Blood also borrows a page from Assassin’s Creed with vampire vision, allowing you to track hidden traces and see glyphs painted around the city. It also lets you identify vampires disguised as humans, so you can assassinate them.
Cole’s classic electric powers are pared down a bit. While you have access to grenades, blasts, and rockets right away, you won’t get full access to variants. However, by staking enough vampires, each power levels up, granting access to magnum bolts and tripwire rockets.
Set in a section of New Marais, the festival takes you through the theater district, graveyard, and an entirely new area of underground catacombs. The game still focuses on the main story, but searching for upgrades, glyph paintings, and collectibles provides plenty of distraction. Completing Festival of Blood takes around 3–4 hours, but once you finish, you unlock user-generated content. Similar tools from Infamous 2 are available to let you create Halloween-themed missions from races to story-based movies, a nice bonus for a smaller standalone title.
While there aren’t major graphical changes, the new setting gives the city a different feel, even including comedy marquees at the theater. A large, full moon looms over the horizon, and there are some nice touches like bulging veins on Cole’s arms.
While Festival of Blood is a smaller version of the Infamous experience, it’s a great Halloween gift if you’re a fan. You’d have to be crazy not to sink your teeth into it.
