NCAA Basketball 10 ROM Description
Using NCAA Basketball 10, step onto the court.
When it came to virtual basketball, NCAA Basketball 10, which was launched for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 17, 2009, set the standard. The game promised a true college basketball experience, and Blake Griffin, a University of Oklahoma alum, graced its cover. However, as of February 2010, there were no upcoming releases planned for any more editions of the NCAA Basketball series, which indicated an unanticipated full-time buzzer for the franchise.
The demo for the game featured a head-to-head between Duke and North Carolina, capturing the intense rivalry in just one half of basketball play. The athletes were enveloped in the electrifying atmosphere of college basketball as they took to the court, heightened by the authentic broadcasting methods of ESPN and CBS Sports, which featured renowned commentary teams.
With more than 100 gameplay improvements, NCAA Basketball 10 provided a plethora of offensive techniques, from the Princeton approach to the Dribble Drive. Player dynamics were improved, including everything from movement and off-ball collisions to the calculated execution of size-ups and alley-oops. But the real heart of the game was found in Dynasty mode, where the excitement of building a team from the ground up via strategic gameplay and recruitment came to life.
Regrettably, opinions on the game were divided. It looked a lot like NBA Live 10, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing until you realized that both games had similar AI bugs that made the game difficult to play. Still, it had a new coat of college flair. The line separating the undergraduate and professional experiences became less obvious due to the recurrence of gameplay aspects from its NBA equivalent.
EA Canada, however, didn’t hold back in any way. They refined the presentation, amazingly accurately encapsulating the spirit of broadcast contests. Despite a few slip-ups that resulted in turnovers, the play calling system was also a great addition. The goal of the game was to keep players engaged until March Madness, mirroring the shifting dynamics of the real NCAA tournament through dynamic updates.
The visual spectacle of NCAA Basketball 10 was essentially the same as NBA Live 10, with a few minor tweaks that brought a little more realism to the college setting, especially in the way crowd dynamics and venue intensity were portrayed.
