WWE 2K16, the exciting sequel to WWE 2K15, emerged as a fan favorite in the world of professional wrestling video games. Developed by Yuke’s and published by 2K, the game hit the shelves for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in October 2015, followed by a PC release in March 2016.

Gamers were treated to an impressive roster of over 120 unique playable characters, nearly doubling the count from the previous edition. This astonishing lineup didn’t even account for potential DLCs, ensuring fans could enjoy a diverse gaming experience right from the get-go.

Unfortunately, the Four Horsewomen of NXT (Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley) were absent from the game for various reasons. Hulk Hogan was also removed from the game at the last minute due to his controversial statements.

Despite these omissions, WWE 2K16 introduced 26 wrestling superstars who debuted in the WWE games franchise, thrilling fans with fresh faces and new gameplay options.

The visuals and audio in WWE 2K16 were top-notch. The commentary team expanded to include John “Bradshaw” Layfield, Michael Cole, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. Enhanced cloth physics, animations, and hair physics created a more immersive and realistic gaming experience.

As for game modes, WWE 2K16 offered something for everyone. The 2K Showcase mode returned, chronicling the career of cover star “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. The MyCareer mode, exclusive to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows versions, allowed players to take control of their superstar’s career trajectory. WWE Universe mode enabled gamers to create their own WWE shows, pay-per-view events, custom arenas, and championship titles.

The online mode, which allowed players to connect and compete with others, was sadly discontinued in May 2017.

The creative suite in WWE 2K16 brought back beloved features like Create a Diva, Create a Show, Create an Arena, and Create a Championship. Players could let their creativity run wild with 100 save slots for created superstars.

WWE 2K16 was a powerhouse of wrestling entertainment, with its immense roster, captivating visuals, and many game modes. It was a true treat for wrestling fans, providing hours of exhilarating gameplay and endless customization options.
