This engaging sequel, developed by Blitz Games and published by Hasbro Interactive, was designed for various platforms such as PlayStation, Game Boy Color, Microsoft Windows, and Dreamcast. Although a Nintendo 64 version was planned, it never saw the light of day.

Frogger 2 stands tall as a tribute to the original 1997 Frogger remake, retaining the classic 4-way movement gameplay, yet introducing a vibrant 3D world with six varied environments. The engaging storyline introduces Pico, an alien stranded in Firefly Swamp, Frogger’s habitat. After a mishap with his spaceship, Frogger pledges to collect all the scattered parts. While the overarching objective remains unchanged – collecting five small frogs while navigating complex obstacles and enemies – Frogger 2 takes a detour to incorporate elements of traditional platformers. Simplifying the level design from its predecessor, the game introduces a linear format, with all five frogs strategically placed throughout the level, serving as checkpoints for players.

The game is free of a time limit, allowing players to take their time to strategize and explore. However, speed is rewarded, with faster level completion times earning higher grades on the results screen.

Experience Extended Capabilities

Frogger 2 expands gameplay possibilities, offering a selection of frogs, including Frogger and Lillie in the story mode. Frogger’s “super jump,” an ability enabling him to reach higher platforms, has been modified to incorporate a “double jump” for clearing platforms with short gaps. Frogger’s croaking ability serves as a beacon to locate the small frogs, making navigation simpler.

Levels in Frogger 2 are loaded with 25 coins scattered around for players to collect. Amassing all coins in a single level unlocks new game modes or additional playable characters, providing an incentive to explore every nook and cranny. The game also introduces a multiplayer mode, supporting two players on PlayStation and up to four players on Dreamcast and PC.
