While the VR Missions standalone release offered hundreds of training scenarios, Metal Gear Solid: Integral provides the most complete version of the main campaign.
Initially only available in Japan, Integral bundles in the enhancements from the North American release, along with new tweaks and bonuses. Adjustable difficulty settings give players more control, with a Very Easy mode providing unlimited ammo. The notoriously tough torture scene is also made more forgiving across difficulties.
All voiced dialogue is in English, preserving the stellar performances that helped set new standards for video game acting. Japanese subtitles accompany the speech for purists. Other text remains untranslated, however, highlighting some humor lost crossing over for Western audiences.
Completing the story once opens up “Alternate Round” mode, remixing enemy placements to encourage replayability. Equipping Snake in a dapper tuxedo after multiple clears adds some visual flair. The major addition is an entire third disc loaded with 300 VR training missions. Dubbed the “VR Disc,” this content was originally released as Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions overseas. The virtual reality sims range from basic combat, sneaking, and weapon handling to unusual challenges like giant genome soldiers or murderous photographs.
