This oriental adventure blends platforming with in-depth combat across 20 levels. Learning new fighting styles from each animal clan master kept me hooked.
The versatile combat feels so fluid. I can seamlessly chain elaborate punch and kick combinations, mixing up mantis, leopard, crane and more styles. Stringing together long combos and experimenting with exotic moves like fireballs and flight made me feel like a kung fu prodigy. I loved finding hidden power-ups and chi energy to unlock new abilities.
While accessible, the gameplay has real depth. Each new style I master expands my repertoire of 100 possible moves. The varied enemies require strategy, forcing me to utilize appropriate attacks and combos. And I can use my moves for platforming or fighting, keeping the action unpredictable.
I was impressed by the vivid 3D environments and charming animal characters. The detailed lighting and water effects brought ancient China to life. And the instrumental soundtrack perfectly encapsulated the Far East setting.
With its excellent pacing, engaging progression and fun mix of combat and platforming, T’ai Fu is a hidden PlayStation gem. Its depth and difficulty provide a satisfying challenge for all ages.
