Embark on a steampunk-inspired wild west adventure in Wild ARMs 2, a well-liked 1999 role-playing game that expanded upon the original’s distinctive “Weird West” setting. The sequel expanded Filgaia into a fully realized universe where magic and mad science collide on the frontier by fusing fantasy and science fiction.
A monster by the name of Lord Blazer torched the region a millennium ago, until the enigmatic Sword Magess, at great personal sacrifice, vanquished him. Today, Filgaia is a steadily disappearing wasteland that will eventually become a desert. Odessa is an organization that uses dark experiments to try to bring Lord Blazer back to life. Ashley, a teenage gunslinger, interrupts the ceremony, but with the Magess’s sword Argetlahm, he manages to subdue the demon’s soul.
Ashley quickly enlists with ARMS, an elite group fighting against Odessa’s oppression. In order to defeat Odessa across Filgaia and rescue the planet once more, Ashley must employ his unique powers in tandem with former soldier Brad and trainee wizard Lilka. With the addition of six playable characters, Wild ARMs 2 offers players more options for dungeon exploration and turn-based combat.
Although fundamentally a conventional JRPG, the strange western setting gives the genre a fresh perspective. Rather than medieval fantasy landscapes, players explore rich 3D renderings of saloons, canyons, frontier towns, and mines. The diverse music, which wonderfully matches the mood, features everything from electronic rock to ballads reminiscent of Ennio Morricone.
Even while the plot isn’t as deep as that of its peers, oddball characters like the “cursed” princess Marivel and the boy genius Tim provide fun and energy to the journey.
