Fantastic Four ROM Description

Live out your superhero dreams as Marvel’s iconic Fantastic Four on Game Boy Advance. Based on the 2005 film, this beat ’em up adaptation lets you clobber bad guys as Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing across 8 action-packed levels.

When Dr. Doom knocks out the team, The Invisible Woman must save them. This flashback tells the origin of the Fantastic Four. After gaining powers from a space accident, the superpowered friends battle evil forces threatening the city.

You’ll clean the streets of robots, mutants, demons, and dinosaurs in Double Dragon-style combat. Punch, kick, and combo bash enemies into submission. Occasionally all four heroes unite for large-scale rumbles against familiar Marvel baddies.

Each member of the team has unique abilities to mix up the brawling. Stretch, turn invisible, ignite fireballs, or smash everything as the super-strong Thing. Simple environmental puzzles require using the right power, but combat is the focus.

The gameplay captures the Fantastic Four spirit, but limits you to just two heroes per stage. You can switch between both with a tap to utilize their powers, but the other two remain AI-controlled. Four-player co-op would’ve better fit the franchise.

While functional, the bland visuals lack Marvel charm or attention to detail. The atmospheric silver screen soundtrack fares better. Bonus art and interviews provide extra content for fans.

Despite polished gameplay, Fantastic Four feels like a rushed, barebones movie cash-in. Oddly, it omits the film’s core plot in favor of a vague original story. With no multiplayer or variety, the campaign is over quickly.

Still, superhero fans should get simple enjoyment out of punching through swarms of enemies as the iconic quartet. It scratches the surface of satisfying beat ’em up action even if it never digs deeper.

While not a terrible game, Fantastic Four fails to do its legendary source material justice. It lacks the heart, humor, or scope of Marvel’s First Family. Download the ISO to experience a competent yet shallow adaptation.

If you seek a truly fantastic Fantastic Four game, wait for the upcoming co-op brawler from Skydance New Media in 2023. But for now, this 2005 release makes an acceptable, brief superhero fix.
