Released in 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo. It follows The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link as the third game in the Zelda series.
The player assumes the role of Link, a youthful hero who travels to the magical kingdom of Hyrule to save Princess Zelda and vanquish the evil sorcerer Ganon. With a top-down view and non-linear gameplay, players can go wherever they like and do anything they want in this game.
The existence of two alternate realities is an integral part of A Link to the Past. When the player first starts the game, they are in the “Light World,” but as the game proceeds, they will discover a means to go to the “Dark World,” a warped counterpart of the Light World populated by more powerful and frightening adversaries.
In A Link to the Past, there are many new ways to play, like using a spin attack and magical goods and powers. The hookshot and the magic hammer are two examples of new tools presented. Players can acquire and improve various weapons and shields to aid them in their mission.
Many reviewers praised the game’s non-linear gameplay, vast setting, and imaginative usage of parallel universes when it was first released. It is widely recognized as one of the best video games of all time, and it is a classic in the Zelda series.
In 2002, a Game Boy Advance port of A Link to the Past was produced, and now, in 2019, it is available on the Nintendo Switch as part of the SNES library. As one of the finest Zelda games, it retains a large fanbase.
