The Unsung Hero: Luigi Takes Center Stage in Mario is Missing!
He’s often overlooked, standing in the shadow of his more famous brother Mario. But every so often, Luigi gets the chance to step into the spotlight. One such opportunity came in 1993 with the release of Mario is Missing! for Super Nintendo and PC. This time around, it was Mario who needed saving, and only Luigi could answer the call.
Our story begins in an unlikely place – the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. After falling through a trap door, Mario finds himself captured in Bowser’s ice castle. Witnessing his brother’s plight, a determined Luigi storms the fortress, knowing this is his time to shine. But Bowser has plans of his own. Using his teleportation PORTALS devices, Bowser’s minions have traveled the globe stealing priceless artifacts. From the foghorns of San Francisco to the treasures of Cairo, no landmark is safe. Bowser intends to ransom the artifacts back for money to fund his dastardly schemes.
Armed only with his jumping skills, Luigi pursues Bowser’s forces across five continents. In each new city, he must track down the missing relics and return them to their rightful places. It’s an educational adventure as Luigi explores the great sites of our world, from the Kremlin in Moscow to villages in Kenya. Along the way, he talks with locals, learns fun trivia, and stomps plenty of Koopas.
Eventually, after outwitting five of Bowser’s toughest minions, Luigi wins his showdown with the big boss himself. Using quick thinking and courage, our unlikely hero foils Bowser’s plans once again. The cities celebrate as their treasures are secured, and Mario walks free from captivity. Though he doesn’t always get top billing, Luigi proves he’s got the brains and bravery to save the day in Mario’s absence.
