Prepare to sculpt slopes in Slalom for the Nintendo Entertainment System by grabbing your vintage skis. This antiquated skiing simulator recreates the exhilaration of racing downhill via snow-capped peaks.
Select from three increasingly challenging peaks, then participate in eight timed slalom runs on each. Skiers may maneuver around brightly colored flags, trees, snowmen, and other skiers as they down the mountain. Skiing tightly around the flag gates can help you gain momentum. If you wipe out by crashing into anything, you’ll fall and lose valuable time.
Strike ramped moguls for massive lift. Perform precise timing when doing freestyle feats while in the air. For extra credit, stay on the landing. However, if you mess up the trick, you’ll fall hard on the snow. Get enough points to be eligible for a solo run where you can go unhindered by other competitors.
Slalom is notable for being the first NES game created by Rare outside of Japan. On 8-bit technology, skiing was made more realistic by the fluid scrolling and vibrant sprite animations. Even though it was basic by today’s standards, it successfully conveyed the essential excitement of downhill racing.
