Diddy Kong Racing ROM Description

When the nefarious space wizard Wizpig finds Tiger Island, it is game over for everyone on the island! Timber Tiger reaches out to his good buddy Diddy Kong after the coveted racetracks on the island are accidentally locked off. He asks Diddy Kong for assistance in reclaiming the racetracks and rescuing the island before his parents arrive. Along on the voyage are the Kremling spy known as Krunch, as well as Bumper Badger, Pipsy Mouse, and Tiptup Turtle, as well as Banjo before he met Kazooie in Banjo-Kazooie.

Diddy Kong Racing is a racing game that is comparable to Mario Kart 64 in the sense that you compete against a number of jovial racers while making use of various types of weapons. However, the parallels cease there. There is an adventure mode in DKR, and it consists of monsters, an overworld that may be explored, a great number of hidden mysteries, the inclusion of hovercrafts and aircraft, and a special manner to race that is referred to as the “Silver Coin Challenge.” In this mode, not only are you expected to finish first, but you must also locate all eight silver coins that have been cunningly concealed around the courses (some in alternate paths).

The game also contains a strategic technique of employing weapons. Collecting the same color balloon down the track numerous times in a row will power up that weapon. Each colored balloon on the track corresponds to a certain weapon (to a maximum of three times). This provides the player the choice of taking every balloon available and utilizing it immediately or saving the existing weapon and employing a more powerful version of it later.

The races allow for as many as four people to compete against one another, however in order to access further courses, the single player mode must be completed first. In addition, there are two standard deathmatch maps, a capture-the-flag style battle in which you must snag eggs and hatch three of them in your home nest, and a race to see who can be the first to return ten bananas to their respective treasure chests. There are also four different battle modes in which players can engage in gameplay (with the limitation of only being able to hold two at any one time).
