Snowboard Kids 2 ROM Description
A fun follow-up to “Snowboard Kids,” “Snowboard Kids 2,” created by Racjin and released by Atlus, is a preface to “SBK: Snowboard Kids.” It is a snowboarding video game that keeps the spirit of the original while adding new features and improvements to make the gameplay more enjoyable.
There are two main game modes: Story Mode and Battle Mode. Story Mode replaces the standard game menu with a hub town, repeating boss levels, and battle races mixed with skill games. Players traverse nine regular race courses, three courses for skill games, and three Boss Stages in this mode. Each track has its own distinct obstacles and surroundings, such as tropical islands, castles, and even space.
“Snowboard Kids 2” adds four new faces to the cast of nine characters, while five of the existing cast members receive major makeovers. Every character has four outfits to go with the various racial themes. After finishing the Story Mode, players may access the Expert mode, which provides more challenging gameplay than the Normal mode.
There are fifteen courses in the game, and in Battle Mode, you may customize the normal 3-lap count. The game’s mechanics have changed significantly since the original release, including the addition of additional air stunts and adjustments to weapon effects. Now, players can use board grabs, tricks, or the R button to stop weapon strikes.
Reactions to “Snowboard Kids 2” were not unanimous despite these improvements. Reviewers praised the game for having boss races and addicting, rewarding weaponry, but they panned it for moving slowly and having a basic stunt system. Critics also pointed out that the game was an improvement over its predecessor rather than a major leap forward due to its antiquated engine, visuals, and control mechanism.
Despite its outdated visuals and mediocre framerates, the multiplayer mode is still a highlight and provides an enjoyable experience. Even while the graphics are vibrant, they clearly date, especially when compared to more recent works. While the game’s lively tone is well suited to the repeated, upbeat music and peculiar sound effects in the sound design, they might get tiresome after a while.
In conclusion, “Snowboard Kids 2” is a fun and enchanting game that, with a distinct twist, embodies the whimsical essence of snowboarding. It positions itself more as a nostalgia journey than a ground-breaking successor in the snowboarding game genre, yet it lacks inventiveness and technological development.
