This Nintendo DS game introduces randomized dungeon diving, shaking up the traditional action RPG concept. In the game Children of Mana, you take on the role of one of four young orphans looking into the catastrophe that killed their relatives. On their search for the truth, they will encounter mysteries, monsters, and magic. The co-op and fighting are straightforward yet add to the fast-paced dungeon wandering.
Rather than battling across an open world, you’ll pick destinations from a map. Random generation ensures that every multi-floor dungeon is unique and keeps you alert. Locate Gleamdrops and eliminate enemies to advance through the sections. You have four weapons at your disposal to defeat enemies, including hammers and swords. Elemental magic supports you on your trip by itself.
Between dungeon raids, the engrossing narrative has you sleuthing around cities for clues. After completing the main goals, undertake side missions to find more treasure. Simple mechanics make this a fantastic introduction to the venerable genre. Also, the hack-and-slash enjoyment is increased when played in multiplayer with buddies.
It’s a little repetitious, but the fast paced makes it interesting. The charming graphics and settings evoke the spirit of adventure seen in the SNES Mana entries.
