The Guitar Hero: On Tour series introduced fast-fingered rock star fantasies to the Nintendo DS with its exclusive “Guitar Grip” device. Use a stylus to strum away, pressing notes on the fret buttons. In three games released between 2008 and 2009, it offered portable, engrossing rhythm action.
Four frets are available for pressing when the Grip fits snugly into the GBA slot. Use the stylus to strum along the touchscreen while holding the DS like a book. Six lanes of notes that correspond to the frets and strings scroll down. Aim for timely hits to accumulate combinations. Yell into the microphone to activate Star Power and get point multipliers.
Even though the basic rhythm gameplay has been simplified from the console games, it still works nicely. In the Career mode, you must gig to get access to greater equipment. Both competitive and cooperative multiplayer are possible with local wifi. Quick play works well for brief meetings.
