Naruto – Uzumaki Chronicles 2 ROM Description
Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles 2 brought the popular ninja anime to PS2 in 2007, but this brawler fails to harness the license’s potential. Developed by Tomy and published by Namco Bandai, Uzumaki Chronicles 2 offers fans superfical fun, but its flawed execution soon bores.
The story follows Naruto and friends working to stop evil puppet masters the Shirogane Clan from reviving an apocalyptic weapon. It hits trademark anime notes, but offers little surprise. Still, fans will appreciate seeing favorite characters rendered faithfully.
Core gameplay also stays surface level. Light and heavy combos, specials, switching between three fighters – it’s basic beat ‘em up fare. Pretty environments barely disguise flat, repetitive objectives of running around whacking baddies. Annoying load times disrupt any momentum.
RPG elements like leveling up stats and customizing ability loadouts aim to add depth, but can’t overcome monotonous fights. Missions provide plenty of replay, yet all feature the same tired mechanics just in different contexts. Even co-op fails due to a nauseating camera.
Yet for all its issues, Chronicles 2 exhibits some positives. The soundtrack mixes driving guitar and Asian flair to energize battles. Clever skill customization gives a sense of progression. And seeing the cast animated charismatically has appeal for anime buffs.
But insufficient variety, technical hiccups, and dull writing undermine the experience. The inspired Naruto premise deserves an equally inspiring game. Instead, only die-hard fans will squeeze fun from this mediocre brawler before its flaws overwhelm them.
