Saint Seiya – The Hades ROM Description
Saint Seiya: The Hades brought the popular anime franchise to PS2 in 2005, but this 3D fighting game fails to do justice to its rich source material. With flawed mechanics, dated graphics, and wasted potential, The Hades disappoints on almost every front.
The limited combat poorly emulates classics like Virtua Fighter and Tekken. Attacks lack distinction, combos are ineffective, and projectile spam dominates. The Cosmo meter charges so fast it breaks any strategy. Comically simple AI provides little challenge either. Only super attacks add any excitement.
Visually, The Hades looks like an early PS2 launch game, not a 2005 release. Drab environments, robotic animation, muddy textures – it resembles a cheap cash-in, not a quality licensed game. Even big moments fall flat due to shoddy production values. The OST disappointingly lacks any familiar melodies fans would recognize as well.
Surprisingly, the story mode provides the only redeeming factor, recreating the Hades arc with full voice acting and loving attention to detail. Seeing beloved characters like Seiya and Shiryu recreated so faithfully makes enduring the gameplay worthwhile for fans. But multiple cloned fighters and wasted unlockables underdeliver too.
Ideas like the rock-paper-scissors aerial battles and Seventh Sense power-ups hint at untapped potential. But sloppy execution sabotages any fun. And with no multiplayer or extras, there’s minimal replay value.
Saint Seiya deserves so much better than this unpolished mess. The IP has produced far stronger examples of fighting games and anime adaptations than The Hades. Only diehard fans willing to overlook copious flaws should give this a shot. Otherwise, it’s a rare Ps2 misstep best avoided.
