Get ready to speed through levels at supersonic speeds with Sonic Heroes on PlayStation 2. After branching into action-adventure in previous games, Heroes returns to classic side-scrolling platforming action in 3D environments.
Team up in squads of 3 across 4 story campaigns: Speed characters like Sonic dash rapidly, Flight types like Tails take to the skies, and Power fighters like Knuckles smash obstacles. Switch between them to overcome challenges and defeat Eggman’s robot armies. Gather rings, dash through loops and rails, and collect Chaos Emeralds in special stages.
The simple, linear level design focused on racing to the goal recalls the Genesis era Sonic gameplay, abandoning Adventure’s exploration. Familiar faces return alongside new additions like E-123 Omega across a variety of themed zones and casino, beach and cityscapes. Boss battles and humorous lighthearted tone capture that Sonic spirit.
With its multi-platform release, Heroes opened Sonic up to new console audiences. The slick visuals impress on PS2, while the rocking soundtrack energizes. Split-screen local multiplayer offers co-op challenges like ring collecting and kart racing for friends.
