Metal Gear Solid – Portable Ops ROM Description
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is a 2006 stealth action game developed for PlayStation Portable, set as a direct followup to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Chronologically the series’ first portable title, Portable Ops casts players as Naked Snake six years later as he confronts his old FOX unit gone rogue in a Soviet missile base in Colombia.
Snake must assemble his own squad to take down FOX members led by the powerful psychic Null and gene-engineered leader Gene. Players recruit enemy soldiers via stealth knockouts and other methods to build a team of specialists for tactical missions. Portable Ops evolves MGS3’s stealth and camouflage with new features like the surround indicator, WiFi character recruiting, and a full online versus mode expanding Metal Gear Online.
The game retains the core stealth action and cinematic presentation of console Metal Gear titles using PSP limitations creatively. Briefings and calls are text-only, but Ashley Wood’s gritty comic book cutscenes and a stellar voice cast propel the complex story forward. Portable Ops also expands Snake’s backstory and leads directly into the beginnings of FOXHOUND.
Naked Snake’s first portable mission is ambitious, strategic and rewards replay and customization. Building a unique strike force provides fresh tactical options and multiplayer expands the package.
