In Fading Shadows, you navigate a fading fantasy world by deviously controlling a magical orb to solve puzzles. Its zen-like flow, which combines marble mechanics with environmental riddles, is most impressive when the ethereal ambiance takes over. But too many disruptive camera and control problems occur.
The orb you lead contains the soul of a kid who was predicted. Your journey is blocked by more difficult obstacles and traps rather than adversaries. To guide the rolling ball, manipulate an above beam of light; a closer concentration pushes the orb harder, but there’s a chance it may break.
Puzzles play on the shapes of the orb: wood floats in water, metal resists falls, and glass shatter readily. Changing between phases is essential for solving the complex environmental puzzles. Developing the ability to navigate difficult sequences presents an engaging mental challenge.
However, timed gates and annoying platforming detract from the otherwise tranquil atmosphere. Clear vision of your surroundings is further hampered by an uncooperative camera angle. The compelling enchantment breaks when one is forced to grapple with perspective.
