Get Ready for Boring Action in Iron Man 2 on PSP
This very boring PSP version of the popular movie Iron Man explodes into mediocrity. Playing as Tony Stark’s soaring alter ego, you’ll encounter a series of monotonous tasks devoid of excitement or variation. Iron Man 2 is a superhero game that never really takes off due to its clunky controls.
You will fly across stages as Tony Stark’s high-tech side project, taking out the same adversaries and completing repetitive tasks. Usually, the first step in hacking a terminal is just demolishing the same trucks and tanks repeatedly. There are few foes that become tired quickly, and the environments are dull and barren. Gameplay is awkward due to the PSP’s clunky controls, which use buttons for aim and the analog stick for movement.
It’s initially entertaining to blow apart tanks and robots with your repulsors and unibeam, but eventually the monotony gets to you. The narrative presented through a few short cutscenes is also uninteresting. Strangely, there is no co-op mode for War Machine, which might have added some flavor. In the end, it’s merely a loop of destroying similar enemies and passageways.
A little amount of variation is offered via boss bouts, where you can take on Iron Man antagonists like Crimson Dynamo. Nevertheless, there isn’t much variation in these bouts other than blasting luminous weak places.
You may simply ignore Iron Man 2 because there are so many other fantastic games out there. It is unable to convey the thrill of being a high-tech superhero due to its monotonous settings and repetitious tasks. Furthermore, a lousy game is made much less fun by the PSP’s controls. Choose a different game featuring the Golden Avenger for an authentically exhilarating Iron Man experience.
The Wii version, if you must dress like Shellhead, at least has better controls. However, Iron Man 2’s repetitiveness cannot be avoided even with it. This boring PSP version falls short of providing exciting superhero action. Instead, download an old 8- or 16-bit ROM for a fun taste of throwback Marvel!
