Pairing platforming challenges with aerial dogfights, this standalone chapter sends the heroes skyward to combat air pirates during a planet-threatening Eco energy crisis.
The iconic pair gets embroiled in conflict once again shortly after crash landing on a remote island. Surviving the jungle wilderness leads Jak and Daxter to ally with fellow castaways against antagonistic sky raiders when kidnapped genius Keira gets caught in the ongoing struggle over rapidly vanishing Eco. What they discover about its sudden instability and ancient Precursor mysteries buried on that very island soon endangers the world itself however.
Core platforming and shooting gameplay shines as expected while aviation battles refresh the formula considerably. Pilot the distinctive Hellcat fighter in hectic skirmishes requiring sharp maneuverability to down targets and withstand dangerous flak fire. Such white-knuckle moments punctuate on-foot sections nicely across varied locations and challenging foes.
Some gameplay variances do seem geared more towards PlayStation 2 limitations rather than PSP functionality unfortunately. But the visual prowess and engaging story make The Lost Frontier an essential Jak and Daxter experience nonetheless.
