In the events that take place some years after the conclusion of Risen, the earth has been ravaged by rampaging titans, and mankind has been forced to the edge of life. In the aftermath of this, horrible animals have emerged from the murky depths of the ocean, and their assaults have forced an end to all maritime activities. It is the mission of the hero, who is now a member of the Inquisition, to discover a way to end the mayhem produced by these creatures that come from the depths. The tales that the pirates who visit the southern islands are the only ones who know a means to get rid of the beasts once and for all and put an end to their reign of terror are the beginning of his quest.

This village of Caldera is in a really precarious situation. A secret cave is hidden within the Fortress of Crystal, which happens to be the final safe haven of the Inquisition and the Old Empire.
