Infamous First Light has a standalone setting and storyline from the main arc of the series. You play Fetch as the protagonist and explore her past. The good thing is that this is a past worth exploring, with plenty of intriguing plot points. If you’ve played Second Son, you’ll have a good idea of what’s going on in First Light. Fetch is being held at the Curdun Cay facility, where Augustine is experimenting with her. In between labs, Fetch will recount her memories of living on the streets with her brother Brent. The game alternates between these two storylines, and they are evenly distributed for very good pacing in the gameplay experience.

The early missions start slow, requiring the player to repeat mundane tasks just to have something to do. However, the second half of First Light really starts to grip you with more varied and compelling plot points. In particular, the ending had me on the edge of my seat, and it’s something players are never told in the main Second Son campaign.

First Light also has a whole new set of collectibles to hunt down, so zipping through the city to find each item will certainly satisfy any completionist’s collecting thirst.

Once the main campaign is complete, you will have access to all the arenas and challenges. There are three different arenas across two different modes. Rescue mode, where you have to save hostages, and survival mode, which is just continuous waves of enemies, These sections are definitely great fun to play, and the difficulty will ramp up in the arenas. It’s all score- and challenge-based, so you’ll find yourself busy trying to complete everything possible. And if you own Second Son, you can even play these arenas as Delson.

Overall, Infamous First Light is fantastic, whether you’ve played Second Son or not. It’s certainly worth your time and investment. Content-wise, it’s on par with the total playtime of Second Son, and while Second Son is obviously longer, First Light has so much to do that you can easily sink 8 hours into completing everything. And luckily, most of it is great fun to play.
