Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ROM Description

He is the big boss. He’s the guy who finally turns into an enemy during the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, the final battle between Solid Snake and my Big Boss.

I like this game. I have a few problems with it, and I’ll tell you those, then we’ll get back to celebrating this game. First, I don’t like the David Bowie-inspired name, Diamond Dogs. Either way, there are a lot of good songs.

Second, I don’t like Hideo Kojima being honored too much in the credits. Come on, he worked hard for this game; I don’t need to see his name every 5 minutes. I agree with you on that aspect. I also feel like there are always some issues with open games in terms of pacing; whether you’re Batman Arkham Knight, GTA 5, or Red Dead Redemption, there are always some issues that you run into. When trying to build a sense of linear storytelling and plot problems, it’s really disjointed.

It’s truly an amazing toy; it’s an unbelievable Metal Gear experience because you can attack every base and every mission from a million different angles, and you can encounter enemies and just point your gun at them, and they’ll surrender, or you can knock them down and stun them with your bionic arm. I like that freedom, but I feel like—and this is a weird metaphor—I feel like I’m watching a season of Smallville, where a lot of the episodes just feel like repeating themes, and then there’s this great overarching plot that cuts into DC storylines. It’s the same thing here.

I really wanted more over-the-top experiences with wonderfully rich characters, and I felt like they were scattered with a lot of repetitive quests. Of all Kojima’s games, this is the one with the least amount of Kojima. He seemed to step out of the driver’s seat and say, “I will create this whole world; I will give you all the things to play with and the right toys so you can do whatever you want.”

But there aren’t a lot of slow-motion scenes with cigarettes flying across the screen or lengthy dialogue that I like in the series. And I think it’s a great video game, and maybe that’s the most remarkable thing to me—to see the Far Cry formula applied here to Mother Base and send these people not to their deaths but to your future life, your own life. I love it. I love saving young warriors, and there are so many great stories to tell. While less dogmatic, still a bit, this is the least dogmatic of Kojima’s games.

I can’t believe I’m changing my view on this whole series, but I mean, and I’m not saying you’re right because you’re wrong; I am. I really like this. So, how much a of a score would you give Metal Gear Solid 5? 9.5 points from my side.
